About the Role

As an SRE at Yelp, you will work on building and maintaining scalable, self-healing systems, ensuring platform reliability and performance while collaborating closely with developers and product teams.

Key Responsibilities

- Support engineers in launching and maintaining new features and services

- Build tools to monitor site performance and stability

- Ensure infrastructure reliability, scalability, and SLO compliance

- Troubleshoot issues using tools like Prometheus, Splunk, OpenTelemetry

- Automate workflows using Python, Terraform, Puppet, Jenkins, Git

- Develop custom solutions and contribute to open-source projects

- Participate in light on-call rotations (follow-the-sun model)

Technical Skills Required

Systems & Cloud

- Familiarity with Linux (Ubuntu or any distro)

- Experience with AWS / Azure / GCP

DevOps & Infrastructure

- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, Puppet)

- Understanding of CI/CD and automation practices

Containers & Networking

- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes

- Understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, load balancing

Programming

- Proficiency in at least one language: Python, Go, Java, C++, Ruby

- Background in Computer Science / Engineering or related field

- Understanding of system reliability and monitoring concepts
