
Smallest is Hiring Fresher/Experience DevOps Engineer
Smallest is looking for a hands-on DevOps Engineer / Site Reliability Engineer to build, operate, and continuously improve reliable production infrastructure.
This is an execution-focused role where you will turn approved High-Level Designs (HLD) into practical Low-Level Designs (LLD) and production-ready infrastructure. You will work directly with production systems, handling deployments, scaling, monitoring, troubleshooting, automation, and reliability improvements.
At Smallest, infrastructure is considered a core part of the product. The role requires strong ownership, practical problem-solving, automation-first thinking, and the ability to operate systems reliably under real-world traffic.
Key Responsibilities
AWS Cloud Infrastructure
- Implement and manage AWS-centric cloud infrastructure using Terraform.
- Design and maintain AWS networking components including VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups, ALB, and NLB.
- Support scalable and reliable cloud infrastructure across production environments.
- Contribute to infrastructure cost optimization and capacity planning.
Kubernetes & Container Infrastructure
- Operate and maintain Kubernetes clusters using Amazon EKS.
- Manage Kubernetes workloads across multiple environments.
- Build and maintain Docker images and container registries.
- Deploy applications using Helm.
- Implement reliable deployment strategies including rolling, canary, and blue/green deployments.
CI/CD & GitOps
- Build, maintain, and own CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
- Implement GitOps-based deployment workflows using Argo CD.
- Automate application and infrastructure deployment processes.
- Improve deployment reliability, repeatability, and operational efficiency.
Monitoring, Observability & Reliability
- Configure monitoring, alerting, and logging using New Relic and Amazon CloudWatch.
- Monitor production infrastructure and application performance.
- Develop and maintain reliable observability practices.
- Work with SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets to improve system reliability.
- Identify performance and reliability issues before they significantly impact production.
Production Support & Incident Management
- Troubleshoot production incidents and infrastructure failures.
- Investigate system behavior under real traffic and changing workloads.
- Perform root-cause analysis and implement permanent fixes.
- Participate in production postmortems and document lessons learned.
- Improve systems and processes based on recurring incidents and operational findings.
Distributed Systems & Supporting Infrastructure
- Support RabbitMQ and Amazon SQS messaging infrastructure.
- Support Redis and MongoDB infrastructure.
- Maintain infrastructure supporting frontend delivery through CloudFront and AWS Amplify.
- Ensure supporting services remain reliable and available for production workloads.
Automation
- Develop automation scripts using Bash, Python, or Go.
- Identify repetitive operational tasks and automate them where appropriate.
- Improve infrastructure provisioning, deployment, monitoring, and operational workflows through automation.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud services.
- Strong practical experience with Kubernetes, preferably Amazon EKS.
- Solid Linux administration and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals.
- Experience designing and managing CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with production debugging and incident management.
- Understanding of Site Reliability Engineering principles.
- Knowledge of SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets.
- Strong ownership and accountability when working with production systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems calmly and implement permanent solutions.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working in a startup or fast-growing technology environment.
- DevOps or SRE side projects and homelab experience.
- Open-source contributions to the cloud-native ecosystem.
- Experience with infrastructure cost optimization.
- Experience with capacity planning and scaling production systems.
- Strong Terraform experience.
- Experience with Helm and Argo CD.
- Experience implementing GitOps deployment workflows.
- Programming or scripting experience with Bash, Python, or Go.
