Role Overview – Site Reliability Engineer I

As a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) at American Express, you’ll ensure that systems are:

✅ Scalable

✅ Reliable

✅ Resilient to failures

You’ll collaborate with software engineering teams, use automation frameworks, and leverage cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP) to build and maintain highly available enterprise systems.

Key Responsibilities

- Support the design, development, and implementation of scalable, fault-tolerant systems

- Collaborate with engineers on automation tools, IaC (Infrastructure as Code), and DevOps practices

- Participate in chaos engineering and resiliency testing to identify failure points

- Assist in disaster recovery and business continuity planning

- Contribute to architecture discussions around scalability, performance, and reliability

- Work with senior engineers on SLOs (Service-Level Objectives), SLIs, and error budgeting

Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, IT, or Engineering (Advanced Degree Preferred)

- Knowledge of observability tools: Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, ElasticSearch

- Experience with containerization: Kubernetes, Docker, Microservices architecture

- Familiarity with cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud

- Understanding of logging, monitoring, tracing, and performance analysis

Preferred Skills (Good to Have)

- Hands-on with Linux/Unix systems

- Programming in Java, Python, or Bash scripting

- Exposure to DevOps & CI/CD pipelines

- Knowledge of SRE best practices in cloud environments (AWS/GCP/Azure)
