Role Overview – Site Reliability Engineer I

As a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) at American Express, you’ll ensure that systems are:
✅ Scalable
✅ Reliable
✅ Resilient to failures

You’ll collaborate with software engineering teams, use automation frameworks, and leverage cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP) to build and maintain highly available enterprise systems.

Key Responsibilities

Support the design, development, and implementation of scalable, fault-tolerant systems
Collaborate with engineers on automation tools, IaC (Infrastructure as Code), and DevOps practices
Participate in chaos engineering and resiliency testing to identify failure points
Assist in disaster recovery and business continuity planning
Contribute to architecture discussions around scalability, performance, and reliability
Work with senior engineers on SLOs (Service-Level Objectives), SLIs, and error budgeting

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, IT, or Engineering (Advanced Degree Preferred)
Knowledge of observability tools: Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, ElasticSearch
Experience with containerization: Kubernetes, Docker, Microservices architecture
Familiarity with cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
Understanding of logging, monitoring, tracing, and performance analysis

Preferred Skills (Good to Have)

Hands-on with Linux/Unix systems
Programming in Java, Python, or Bash scripting
Exposure to DevOps & CI/CD pipelines
Knowledge of SRE best practices in cloud environments (AWS/GCP/Azure)
