Role Overview – Linux Support Engineer

As a Linux Support Engineer at SUSE, you will deliver world-class enterprise technical support for the SUSE Linux portfolio. You will troubleshoot complex technical issues, replicate customer challenges in lab environments, and collaborate globally with engineers, developers, and product teams.

This role is based in Bengaluru (on-site) and requires on-call/weekend support as part of a shift rotation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide OS support for SUSE Enterprise Linux users.
  • Troubleshoot installation, configuration, booting, and performance issues.
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve critical customer issues.
  • Replicate customer problems in lab environments to deliver optimal solutions.
  • Communicate with customers via email, remote sessions, and phone.
  • Collaborate with global support teams in a 24x7 "follow the sun" model.
  • Escalate bugs and feature requests to development and product management.
  • Contribute to knowledge base improvement and documentation.

Required Technical Skills

  • Strong expertise in Linux operating systems (SUSE, Red Hat, Ubuntu, etc.).
  • Certifications preferred: SCA, RHCSA, LPIC-1.
  • Several years of experience as a System Administrator or Technical Support Engineer.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting Linux OS components.
  • Basic Bash scripting knowledge.
  • Familiarity with:
    • High Availability & Clustering
    • Storage (SAN, LVM, iSCSI, multipathing)
    • Networking protocols & concepts
    • LDAP, Kerberos, Samba, Active Directory
    • Non-x86_64 architectures
